88 Butterflies & 66 Moths

88 Paper Butterflies

An homage to the Japanese ritual of folding cranes upon the passing of a loved one, the numerous butterflies that dot this white canvas were painted to cope with the four year long descent of the Artist's Grandmother into the late and final stages of dementia.

Dimensions: 17.5" x 23.5"
Medium: Mixed Media / Water Color
Process: One and a half years
Life imitates art in that the butterflies fly upwards towards the sun in an attempt to experience the outer world.

In tradition with her grandmother’s preferred medium, watercolor, these became an exercise in perfecting a certain technique by repeating it over and over. These pieces represent the duality of life and inherent suffering that we all must endure at some point time. The actual count of paper butterflies is unconfirmed.
66 Paper Moths

The moths below were created in parallel with butterflies above. The artist painted approximately five moths and butterflies per evening session. The two contrasting pieces explore the polarity between light and dark, suffering and joy. The moths are placed on a black canvas with an indigo edge, while the butterflies sit on a white canvas with a red-orange edge.

Dimensions: 17.5" x 23.5"
Medium: Mixed Media / Water Color
Process: One and a half years
Life imitates art in that the moths fly inward towards the center in an attempt to understand the self.
This collection attempts to communicate how we transmute times of trauma and loss into creative expression.

Bridget is a self-taught artist based out of Bishop, California. Her works explore the polarity between beauty and darkness through the use of multi-media techniques that reach beyond the canvas. An uncomplicated motif, the butterfly integrates deep meaning with sublime references to the intuitive subconscious and ancient symbolism.
